Polished Concrete

Polished concrete is a good sustainable option because it makes use of materials already present.  Most modern buildings are built with concrete slabs. Polishing the exposed concrete eliminates the energy and material consumed by applying further coverings. Something to consider when building or modernizing towards a more green solution.

Why polished concrete?

  • It is low-maintenance, durable and easy to clean compared to other flooring options.

  • It reduces dust mite, allergen problems and does not support mould growth.

  • It is reflective which improves natural light.

Residential polished concrete benefits:

  • It creates a very clean look, easy to maintain and doesn't trap dirt or allergens.

  • It can be resurfaced and is tough against spills.

  • It is available in a variety of colour and design combos.

Industrial and Commercial pros:

  • Using existing slab as the finished surface, it's cost effective and low maintenance.

  • Very durable and resilient towards high foot traffic areas.

  • Easy to clean. Gloss surface resists marks and stains.

  • Polished concrete allows the floor to breathe and eliminate issues that arise in other materials.

Polishing concrete:

  1. Surface preparation - we remove dirt and blemishes from your existing concrete. Additional steps may be necessary depending on your floor and the nature of your project...

  2. On-site analysis - after clean, we determine its hardness, porosity and the aggregates used. This will determine the most appropriate mix.

  3. Grinding and polishing — after the prep we begin polishing your floor. A true system usually entails a 5 to 10 step process. Steps vary depending on your floor’s condition and how much shine we want.

  4. Densifying and Hardening - After we complete the first polishing process your floor will begin to densify.  Densification is so important because it impacts how long the gloss will last and the performance of its finish. The harder the floor the longer it lasts. Proper densification also increases concrete's resistance to water, stain, and chemicals.

  5. Making your floor shine - Going over your floor with a diamond disc will ultimately give it shine. With each pass your floor will continue to flatten and become more light reflective.
